    In both of these aims the author seems to us to have succeeded admirably . The book is

    written in strong nervous English , and the character of Gordon is well brought out . A better present for a youth beginning life could

    not be selected from current literature . From Mr . David Watt , —' The Strife of Love in

    Lang . This is a work for the antiquarian and such as are curious regarding what is odd in literature . It must be confessed that it is not very

    the current practice in the leading games of present interest . The editor is a specialist himself , and he has been aided by other

    Major , -General Drayspn has written on Whist and fecarte * , Mr . Arthur G . Payne on Billiards , Mr . Leopold Hofferchess editor of the Field .
