Edited by FREDK . . A .. OASTLE , IM . ID . In Two super-royal 8 vo . vols "Wood ., 1 , 770 Engravings pages . Illustrate , d by over 700 fine Price , in cloth binding , TWO GUINEAS . A work of this kind has been demanded by the people for years past . From time to time individuals , more , or less closely connected with the medical profession , have sought to take advantage of the fact . But , heretofore , any attempt to convey medical instruction to the people has been so generally disapproved off that no one who valued his professional I standing could be induced to write or contribute to such a work . More recently , however , a feeling has been growing among the leading men in the profession that this popular desire for knowledge is a justifiable one , and that , properly written , a book giving every detail which can possibly be available to those not specially educated in medicine might be a blessing to mankind ^ and of positive benefit to Physicians in enabling patients intelligently to carry out professional advice . Owing to this favourable change of opinion , now , for the first time in the history of literaturef has it been at all possible to obtain the materials and the writers for a work like Wood ' s Household Pbactice of Medicine . It is essentially a practical work , intended for daily use . Theories of all kinds have been omitted . It has been the aim of the eminent authors to make their contributions clear I and concise , and as free as possible from technical terms . It is written by some fifty of the most prominent physicians and surgeons in America . See what the LANCET says : — This work represents a great undertaking . There aro many systems of domestic medicine , but we have seen none so pretentious and so complete as this . The work consists of two large volumes , each having eight or nine hundred pages , the type and paper being enumera excellent ting .
