Being an Account of Dr . Tromholt ' s Journeys in Lappland , Finland , and Russia in 1882 and 1883 , giving Descriptions of the interesting Lapp and Kvan Races and their Characteristics , the International Polar Researches of 1882 and 1883 , and a Popular -Scientific Exposition of what is at present known of the Remarkable Phenomenon j the Aurora Borealis , or Northern Lights , on which the Author is '•< the greatest authority of the day . No work in English has hitherto i been published dealing fully "with this phenomenon , and it is believed that this portion of the present publication will be found of great I interest to Students of Electricity . The work will be Illustrated by about a hundred Portraits and Views from Photographs taken by the Author during his Travels—a collection without parallel . The Photos of the Aurora Borealis are particularly valuable , while others are also highly interesting , as , for instance , those taken by the Midnight Sun , those ' of the Whaling Fisheries , and the Knivkjarod ( just discovered to be the Northern-I . j most point in Europe , instead of the North Cape ) , & c .
