Volume VII . of ' The Treasury of David ' completes a work which has Jbeea in progress
for seven years . Remembering his earnest pursuit of so many benign , objects we must
congratulate Mr . Spurgeon upon the conclusion of this laboriousexactingand even gigantic
, , task . Most of our readers are probably aware of the character of the book . Those who are — ¦ — h ~^ ppr ~ p ^ pr —— pp— — ™ - — - ^ . ^ b ~ - ™ ^ p >~ ^ pv ~^ pp P ^ PV i ™ ™ ^— ^^» *»^ PT * " ^ P *~ " *^ P ^ ~^ p ~ " —^—» w PP ^^^ P ^ P ^^ ™^ P ^ P ^ ^^^ " ^ P ^ P" P ^^ ^^^ ^^ ^^ ^^
not may be told that the ' Treasury' contains an original exposition of the Book of Psalms ;
a collection of illustrative extracts from the whole range of literature ; a series of
homiletical hints upon almost every verse ; and Iist 3 of writers upon each psalm .
These headings show the wide range of the study which Mr . Spurgeon has treated so
fully , and , almost single handed , brought to so satisfactory a conclusion . The author rightly
claims that : ' The former volumes have en-¦ joyed ' * - ' w ^»* -v ^* i * a - ^* singular ~> -r »* . ± * tab ^^ ^ »^ w mm popularit ¦ w' - ^ . ^ » ^^ - v » »» - •»/ . . Jb « r y w « . ^ It > ^ may ^ k . ¦ Jk *>« - ^ r be ^^ - ^^ ques - »^« *"» - ¦¦• " — -
tioned if in any age a commentary so large upon a circulation a single within book of measurable the Bible has distance enjoyed of
that which has been obtained by this work . Among all orders of Christians " The Treasury "
has found its way unrestrained by sectarian prejudice—another proof of the unity of the
spiritual life , and the oneness of the food upon which it delights to feed . '
