      correspondent of an incident connected , with the first appearance of the work in English .

      The proprietor of a well-known though now extinct circulating library in Scotland was so

      incensed at the title of the book that he immediately consigned the copies for which

      his manager had subscribed to the flames ! The grim Presbyterian would not even allow

      them to be returned or sold in any way . Novels which his subscribers complained of

      as being indecorous were without a moment ' s hesitation treated in the same manner .

      The enlargement of The Quiver ( Cassell & Co . ) gives evidence of the aims of the

      publishers in the way of giving full value for money . Its sizehoweverhas not been

      expanded at the expense , of , its contents , for readers will find the entertainment in its pages
