December . * During the meeting of the British
Association for the Advancement of Science three special sermons upon tlie subject of progress
in that direction were preached in Manchester Cathedral by the Bishop of Carlisle , the Bishop
of Bedford , and th $ Bishop of Manchester . Under the title ' The Advance of Science '
these sermons have now been published together in pamphlet form by Mr . John
Hey wood , of Manchester . The Rev . W . W . Tulloch has completed
a popular biography of the Prince Consort for all classes of readers , which will form a companion volume to his ' Story of the Life of
the Queen , recently published . We understand that the Queen has graciously allowed
Mr . Tulloch to submit his work to her Majesty before publication . The volume will be
published by Messrs . Nisbet & Co . The same publishers also announce for
publication in October the Autobiography and other Memorials of Miss Maria V . G . Havergal
