There is no necessity for the author to tell us that the study of flowers and flower-lore has been a congenial pastime to him for many years ; he
shows it in every line . The letterpress is supplemented by some excellent illustrations . From Mr . Elliot Stock . —Encouraged by the
success which attended the publication of her * Analogous Proverbs ' in four languages , Mrs . E . B . Mawr has now amplified the same ,
extending the languages to ten . . Looking over her work , we have chiefly been struck by the pains-taking research and labour that it displays . To all

authoress has in all casos been successful , since some of the quotations given in other languages sarour rather of being parallel passages than
proverbs strictly so called , and there is probably a slight straining to get in as many languages as possible , which operates somewhat to the
detriment of the work ; but , all said and done , Mrs . Mawr has reason to be heartily congratulated on the success of her labours . It would , indeed , be
a wonderful book , especially of this nature , that possessed no faults at all ; it is infinitely to the credit of the authoress , and tostifies greatly to
her diligence , that in the present case they should be so limited in number . From MrTFislier TTxrwin ¦ ¦ —Voter 2 snew and
