from Mr . Calmann-Le ' vy , Paris . — ' Autour du Divorce / par Gyp . This is a comical trifle ,
intensely Parisian , in which a lady , in order to tease her husband and relatives , pretends to have given them — cause for serious compx laint . She disappear a . - * - s

set forth in dramatic dialogue , form a volume of the lightest literature , just suited to beguile an idle hour .
From Mr . E . "W . Cole , Melbourne . —Collections of jests are very numerous among recreative

been led to a study of history by the historical romances of Sir "Walter Scott and his disciples .
Some persons have acquired a taste for geographical research by reading ' Robinson Crusoe , ' and ' Philosophy in Sport' has called forth the
, latent talent of many a boy who has becdme a scientist in earnest . Few writers have done more to popularise jscience than Jules Verne . On him
has descended _ r the mantle of Defoe , but with this difference that a very much greater amount of information may >/ be gathered t _> from one of Jules
Verne ' s books than from ' Robinson Crusoe . ' And then Defoe was almost entirely without humour , whereas Jules Verne makes the reader

in high dudgeon from the stormy sitting of the Institute . The president of the institute , familiarly designated ' Uncle' Prudentand the secretary

permitted to address the meeting but was overruled by " Uncla _ Prudent , While angrily arguing with each other the president ' s black servant ,
Frycollen , notices that the party are being dogged by six men . Before ' , he can give an alarm the two scientists and their attendant are overpowered
and carried on board the aeronef or air-ship of Robur . For the sequel of the narrative and all the wonderful adventures met with in the aerial
voyage of the Albatross ( for that is the name of the air-ship ) , we must refer our readers to the English translation of ' Robur tho Conqueror , *
which will be published immediately in London . We can promise them a great treat , for M . Jules Verne fully maintains tho reputation he has so
deservedly acquired amongst children of all ages . And the best of readers are always childlike and teachable . Nor need tho wisest and cleverest

From Messrs . Houlston & Sons . —' Sweet-briar : Songs and Sketches , ' with illustrations by

distinguished by much grace and poetic fancy . In the songs , with which the book is plentifully garnished , the author has been esDecially
suecessful , and we like him better in these than in his humorous pieces , such as 'A Tough Yarn , ' where the merit does not strike us as being :
