      1 Mr . Mac Donald himself , as well as the publicis to be , congratulated on his having reverted to his earliest and best manner . He is never so good as when he tells a purely Scottish story .... The Laird and his son Cosmo are as fine portraits of noble Scottish manhood as Mr . Mac Donald has ever achieved . Grizzie , the old servant , is perhaps the best bit of characterdrawing he has ever done .
