LETTER FROM MR . WM . HICK , NORTHERN STAR OFFICE , LEEDS . " Northern Star Office , Leeds , March 17 th , 1842 . Cfri entlemen , —Yon will oblige by forwarding , at VI your earliest convenience , the same quantity of PARR'S LIFE PILLS as last sent ., While I am writing I cannot refrain from communicating the flattering intelligence of the groat good your pills are doing in Leeds and its neighbourhood . It is clearly a great error to find fault with a medicine merely because it is a patent one ; and more especially since its use has contributed so largely to the public health . The fact is , however , predjudice is fast giving way , as it always must where the pills are tried . A few cases in point may serve to confirm and illustrate what I have asserted .

DERBY . —Mr . R . G . Gansm& ? e , of Northampton , < ieliTered two discourses on Sunday list , in the Marketplace . Both meetings were ¦ well attended , -and a good impression was made . CARULE . —PrBLic Meeti >" G —A few days ago a meeting wssheld in Mesas ' * Machine room , for the purpose of changing the members of the Council of the Chartist Association ; and making other necessary arrangements connected with tbat body , Mr . John Oiibertson in the chair . Mr . Lowery rea < a fall statement of the accounts , which appeared to be satisfactory to all present ,- after which , he read a report of the proceedings of tbe retiring council daring their term of
office . He recited the difficulties with which they had to contend for a considerable rime : the proceedings st the famous Birmingham Conference , and the state of organization in Carlisle during the strise , and sinca that period . He called on She people to persevere , and illaEtrated his obsemtions by relating a -very interesting anecdote of thefam-. os warrior , Robert Brace aiid the spider . The report was well reoeWed by those present . On the motion of Mr . James Hair , seconded by Sir . William Biythe , the rtport was adopted by tLe meeting . It was then proposed that a new council be chosen , which lead to some remarks from Mr . Joseph Richardson , as to the competency of the mating to choose a council , as there were not more than from
forty to £ f : y persons prtstnt , and on a former occasion thty hadbevrii rtflrcttKi -xi f > r chosinga council , when « greater number wers present Mr . Bowman strongly ¦ nrseii the necessity of electing a c uncil , not so much on account of pecuniary matters , tut as a sort of rallying point for the Chartist body , as without a council no public business would be attended to in a proper manner . After considerable discussion , the following persons were chosen to ac : as a council for the ensuing quarter : —John Gilbertson , Win . Cauithard , Robert Grahame , James Hnrst , John Lowery , Jsmes Q'Neil , Wm . Johnssn , Henry Bo ^ min , Joseph Sowell , Joseph BrowD . Wm . Gaty , John Moocey . Alexander Millhell * nd . James Bates , and James Muir . Mr . Wm . Caulthard was elected treasurer , and Mr . John Lowery , secretary .
Mb . Jauxs Aeihcs " s case . —This gentleman having received his notice to appear in the Court of Queen ' s Bench , toreciiye judgment on Thursday the fourth of 2 Jay , arrangements were made by the council to make a general collection to defray his expences on Saturday craning . On Sunday the courcil and the various collectors assembled at Xa . 6 John-street , Caldew-gate , when the sum of £ 3 Ss . was paid up to the Treasurer , Mr . Wiiliam Csnlthard , who , by order of the council , paid it orer to Mr . Arthur . In the course of the afternoon , a deputation arrived from the small bnt spirited Tillage ol Dlisten , with the gam of 10 s . for Mr . Arthur so thit he received about £ i towards defraying his expenses . We never saw a better spirit manifested than was displayed oa this occasion , and we have little doubt , Eboti'd Mr . Arthur rccrive imprisonment , bn : he will be well and tfneiently supported during the term of his incarceration .
DALKEITH . —Daring the past week tbe Chartists of this t * wn , posted large placards , challenging Acland , the Leaece lecturer , to diseuos ibe following question" Will a Repeal of the Corn Laws remove the misery and distress that at present exists in this country . " Mr . Acland refusiiig to discuss the question , Mr . Dickinson , the Manchester packer , delivered a lecture on the eut-ject , on Friday last , in the Freemasons' Hall , Mr . Jotn M'Pherson in the chair . There was a good meeting , scch a one as AcJand woald hare been glad to have seen at either of bis lectures . Mr . Dickinson
re-Tiewed the lectures of Ackiand , and showed the base means taken by the League to raise the so-much boasted £ 50 000 . The lecture aeemed to carry conviction to the meeting , and to give general satisfaction . A vote of thanks was given to the lecturer and to the chairman , and the meeting broke up . These lectures of A eland ' s questioning , and discussing , &c , &c- have given fresh life to the good came in Dalkeith . The Corn Law Repealers here are breathing vengeance against tbe Chartists who opposed their pet Aciand , thtre is one consolation for them however , vii , that the Chartists rcither fear their frowns or court their amil&s .
