• BRIGHTON . —On Tuesday evening March , 2 i ) ih . Mr . O'Connor delivered one of tho most soulftirring leetures we ever had the gratification to JvitEess , aad she first , we bslieve , ever delivered in Bri ^ htet on the subject , viz ., — " The Repeal of the Legislative Union between Great Britain and Ireland . " At eight o ' clock , the time fixed for the commencement of the lecturej the place was crowded in all parts by upwards of tvfo thousand of the inhabitants of iJri Jhton . The place in which the lecture was delivered , was the covered Market Pface , under the Tovrn Hail , A capacious platform was erectBd . on which about 100 females were seated . On Mr-O'Connor making his appearance he was greeted by ioua rounds of applause . Mr . John Good was
unanimously called to the chair , and after a few observations introduced tht-ir friend O'Connor , who , on rising , was a sain met by the loud cheers of the meeting . Mr . U'Cunnor ' s lecture was one , which to give a mere outline of would be an utcer impossibility . For two hours the impassioned eloquence cf the devoted son of Erin , made the place ring with the denunciations of his country's oppressors . The wrongs of Ireland—tho rights of htr people , were depicted snd vindicated ; am \ d the repeated cfeeetiDg 3 of the rneens ? , though there were a few who seemed inclined to create a disturbance , but were speedily put down , and also pnt out of the place ; we are sorry to find that one of ih 3 dis : urbers was an Irish repealer , bui if vhere was one to disturb the meetiue there
were a hundred to keep tne peace , and while we are s :. rry to record one voor deluded man and repealer , as a disturber , it gratifies us to record , and vre do it wjih pride , when we say that the majority of the Irish Repealers in Brighton were present , and left the meeting with expressions of thanks to Air . O'Connor for the lecture of that evening . Behind Mr . O'Connor eat three Irish repealers verp respectabl j dressed and expressed themselves highly gratified with the lecture and told us that they would go anywhere to hear another lecture of the same stamp and by the same nun . Some of the repealers , " the iflfluentialfi" as they call themselves , got up a sapper for their poorer countrymen to keep them from tbe lecture , bat it was no go ; they were determined to se % to hear
• < | and to judge for themselves , and many paltry pre-, judioes that had been created in their minds against O'Connor , were that evening removed . At the close ; of the lecture , he announced himself as intending to stand as candidate for ths forthcoming election for Brighton , amidst the most rapturous applause . This lecture and Mr . O'Connor ' s intention of being OB the hustings at the anticipated election , will create in Brighton a vast feeling in favour of tbe principles of the Charter . The labourers from the surrounding villages will attend and back up the men of Brighton . The name of O Connor will strike terror into the hearts of tbe enemies of tbe people's freedom . The cry must be " O'Connw!—Brooker 11 and the -CharierUr
