" The various forms of bodily and mental weakness incapacity , suffering and disease , faithfully deliueuted in this cautiously written and practical work , are almost unknown , generally misunderstood , and treated upon pr inciples correspondingly erroneous and superficial , by the present race of medical practitioners . Hence the necessity for the publication of » timely safeguard , a silent yet friendly monitor , or , where debility has made threatening inroads , the means of escape and the certainty of restoration . The evils to which the book adverts are extensive and identical in their secret ynd hiddun origin , and there are none to whom , as Parents , Guardians , ' Heads of Families , and especially of public Schools , ! is confided the care of young people , who ought to > remain for a moment devoid of that information and those salutary cautions thiB work is intended to convey . Not only : are the most delicate forms of generative debility neglected by the family physician , but they require for their safe management the exclusive study of a life entirely abstracted from the routine of general practice , and ( as in other departments of the profession ) attentively concentrated in the daily and long continued observation requisite for the correct treatment of sexual infirmities . 41 If we consider the topics upon either in a moral or social view , we find the interests and welfare ot mankind serionely involved . The effects of liocntious , indiscriminate and secret indulgence in certain practices , are described with an accuracy and force which display at once profound reflection and extensive practical experience . "—The Planet . " The best of all friends ia the Professional Friend and in no shape can he be consulted with greater safety and secrecy than in " Lucas on Manly Vigour . " The initiation into vicious indulgenceits progress—its results in both sexes , are given with faithful , but alas 1 for human nature , with afflicting truth . However , the Authors have not exposed the evil without affording a remedy . It shows how "Manly Viooub" temporarily impaired , and mental and physical emasculation , produced by uncontrolled indulgence of the passions , can be restored ; how the Bufferer , who has pined in anguish from the consequences of early iudiscrotioa—afraid almost to encounter his fellow man , can regain the vigour of health and moral courage . The work is written in a oonoise and perspicuous style , displaying how often fond parentB aredeoeived by the outward physical appearance of their youthful offspring ; how the attenuation of the frameypalpitationofthe heart , derangement of the nervous system , cough , indigestion , and a train of symptoms indicative of consumption ox general decay , are often ascribed to wrong causes j and instead of being the natural results of congenital debility or disease , are the consequences of an alluring and pernicious practice , alike destructive to the mind and body . "—Bell ' s New Weekly Messenger . " Although a newspaper is not the ordinary channel for the expression of opinion upon the merits of a medical work , this remark is open to cxcaption in any instance where the public , and not the isolated and exolusive members of the profession , ara the parties addressed . Upon that which is directed to men indiscriminately , tha world will form its owu opinion , and will demand that medical works for popular study should be devoid of that mysterious technicality in which the science of medicine has hitherto shrouded itB own ignorance . The work before us treats of subjects we believe generally , yet very Btrangely , neglected by the medical aitendant , and requiring doubtlessly ( as in operative midwifery and the surgery of thetye ) an entire devotedness to a deeply important branch of study . The tone of this book is highly moral , and it abounds in wellwritten , harrowing , yet correct displays of the suffering eonsequtut upon unbridled sensualism . No human being can be the worse for its perusal ; to multitudes it must prove a warning beacon , a welltold appeal to reason , a permanent blessing . It is written in a clear intelligible style , and is evidently the production of a mind long and practically conversant with the diseases of the most delicate division of the human organization . " —The Magnet . 11 The security of happiness in the marriage state is the chief anxiety of all ; but many dread entering upon wedded union , through a secret fear of nnfitness for the discbarge of matrimonial obligations , This essay is most particularly addressed to all suffering under a despondency of the * character alluded to ; and advice will be found calculated to cheer the drooping heart , and point the way to renovated health . *' Messrs . THE CORDIAL BALM OF SYR 1 ACUM . Is a gentlestimulant aud renovator of the impaired functions of life , and ia exclusively directedi to the care of the Generative System , whether constitutional or acquired , loss of sexual power , and debility arising from Syphilitic disease ; aud is calculated to afford decided relief to those who , by early indulgence in solitary habits , have weakened the powers of their system , and fallen into a state of chronic debility , by which the constitution is left ia a deplorable state , and that nervous mentality kept up which places the individual in a state of anxiety for the remainder of life . The consequences arising from this dangerous practice , are not confined to its pure physical result , but branoh to moral ones ; leading the excited deviating mind into a fertile field of seducive error , — into a gradual but total degradation of manhood—into a pernicious application of these inherent rights which nature wisely instituted for the preservation of her species ; bringing on premature deoripttude , and all the habitudes of old age ;—such a one carries with him the form and aspect of other men , but without the vigour and energy of that season which his early youth bade him hope to attain . How many men cease to be men , or , at least , cease to enjoy manhood at thirty \ \ How manv at eighteen receive the impression of tho seeds of Syphilitic disease itself ? tho consequences of which travel out of the ordinary track of bodily ailment , covering the frame with disgusting evidence of its ruthless nature , and impregnating the wholesome stream of life with mortal poison ; conveying into families the seeds of disunion and unhappiness ; undermining domestic harmony ; and striking at the very soul of human intercourse . ' The fearfully abused powers of the humana Generative System require the most cautious preservation ; and the debility and disease resulting from early indiscretion demand , for the cure of those dreadful evils , that such medicine should be employed that is most certain to be successful . It is for the ?* cases Messrs . Perry and Co ., particularly designed their CORDIAL BALM ! OF SYRIACUM which is intended to relieve those persons , who , by an immoderate indulgence of their passions , have ruined their constitutions , or in their way to the consummation of that deplorable state , are affected with any of those previous symptoms that betray its approach , as the various affections of the nervous system , obstinate gleets , exoopses , irregularity , obstructions Of certain evacuations , weakness , total impotencj , barrenness , &o . As nothing can be better adapted to help and nourish the constitution , so there is nothing more generally acknowledged to be peculiarly efficacious in all inward wastings , loss of appetite , indigestion , depression of spirits , trembling or shaking of the hands or limbs , obstinate eoagb . 8 , shortness of breath , or consumptive habits . It possesses wonderful efficacy in all cases of syphilis , fits , head-ache , weakness , heaviness , and lowness of spirits , dimness of sight , confused thoughts , wandering of th © mind , vapoura , and melancholy ; and all kinds of hysteric complaints are gradually removed by its use . And even where the disease of Sterility appears ? to have taken the firmest hold of the female constitution , the softening tonic qualities of the Cordial Balm of Syriacum will warm aud purify the blood and juices , increase the animal spirits , invigorate and revive the whole animal machine , and remove the usual impediment to maturity . ; This medicine is particularly recommended to be taken before persons enter into the Matrimonial State , lest in the event of procreation occurring , the innocent , offspring should bear enstampodupon it the physical characters derivable from parental debility , or evil eruptions of a malignant tendency , that are most assuredly introduced by the same neglect and imprudence . < Sold iu Bottles , price lls . eaoh , or the quantity of four in one Family bottle for 33 d ., by which one lls . bottle ia saved . Gentlemen , —Though it is but a very short tim . since I last wrote for a supply of Parr ' s Life , Pills t find that owing to an astonishing increase intim sale of them , I am again , compelled to request you to send me twenty dozen of the small , as also a minnl ? of the large sizu . I should wish you to forward them by railway to York , thence by carrier , as early S possible , as I am afraid my present stock will be ex haa 8 ted before they reach me . I enclose youtS case of a person who resides in Malton , and whoa « testimony may be relied upon as being strict !* correot . This is but one case selected from an altno ^ inoredible number of others , which have come undw my notice , in which cures have been effected by th » use of Parr's Life Pills . Many highly respectablt persons in this neighbourhood , who previous to tha introduction of Parr ' s Life Pills had a decided digliS to Patent Medicines , are now thankful that they are able to add their testimonials to the beneficial effeita of these pills . By forwarding me , without delay tim quantity of pills as ordered above , you will oblige Gentlemen , yours , respectfully , J . WRANGHaM . Gentlemen , —When I consider the very great relief I have experienced from the use of Parr ' s Life Pills , I think it not only to be my duty to you bat to every one who mayibe suffering from similar coo . plaints with which I have been afflicted , to make my astonishing case as public as possible . For a Ions time past 1 have been greatly troubled with a most severe nervous complaint , giddiness , and swimming in the head , which increased to such a degree thu at times I was compelled to leave off from my work , being unable to boar the least fatigue or excitement ! At the suggestion of mauy of my friends , I was in . duced to try various medicines , but found that mj complaint instead of diminishing , was daily growing worse . Having fortunately heard of the beneficial effects of Parr ' s Life Pills , I resolved to give them a fair trial , though 1 must confess with but little hopes of deriving benefit from them , after having tried so many other medicines without success ; I immedi . diately purchased a small sized box of Mr . Wring . ham , chemist , the only agent for the sale Of them ut Malton , and fortunate indeed has it been for me that I did so , for thongh I have just finished taking this one box , I find myself so far relieved that instead of daily , nay hourly , suffering ;! rom that dreadful complaint , nervousness , with its attendant miseries , lam restored to my former good health ^ my nerves are strong—the giddiness and swimming in my head ara totally removed , and I am now able to attend rep > larly to my trade . It originated in her breast , and continued to spread nearly all over her body , defying every effort of surgioal skill . Parr ' s Life Pills being recommended to her , she resolved to give them a trial ; and , speaking Of the result , she says she cannot express the inconceivable advantage which she haa already derived from them . Sue further states that she is now almost well , and ascribes her convalescence solely to the persevering use of that sorereign medicine Parr ' s Life Pills . From Mr . R . Turner , Lswton . To Messrs . T . Roberts k Co ., Crane Court , Fleetstreet , London . Lenton , near Nottingham , Dec . 12 , 1842 . IMPORTANT TO INVALIDS . rpHE Proprietor of DR . HAMILTON'S VITAL -L PILLS , feeling convinced that the innate good properties of this Medicine , must by the recommendations of those who experience its benign efficacy , ( in many instances after all other means had failed ) do more to bring it into notice , than anything else , has abstained from publishing cases of cure , and th , « more so , as he well knows the frauds that are constantly practised upon the public by fictitious or manufactured oases , which causes little faith to be attached to such statements . But how different is it with those persons who are eye witnesses of the curative powers of a Mi-dioine in their own immediate neighbourhood ; these , indeed , strike home to the convictions of every one under whose notice they happen to fall . The entire columns of a newspaper would be totally inadequate to contain a fiftieth part of the details of previous suffering , and the joyous expression of g atitude in the numerous letters he has received . But he disdains to agitate the publio mind with them , knowing fuli well , that the Medicine having gained a footing , alike in the mansions of the peer and the cottages of the peasant , nothing c&n stay its course , nor is there a oivilizod portion of the globe where it will not ultimately be known and prized as the great restorer of health . W . having dovotcd his studies for many years exclusively to tho various diseases of the generative and nervous system , in the removal of those distressing debilities arising from a secret indulgence in a delusive and destructive habit , and to the successful treatment of VENEREAL AND SYPHILITIC DISEASES , Continues to be consulted from nine in the morning till ten at night , and on Sundays till two , —and country patients requiring his assistance , by making only one personal visit , will receive such advice and medicines as will enable them to obtain a permanent and effectual cure , when nil other means have tailed . In recent cases of a certain disorder a perfect cure is completed in one week , or no charge made for medicine after that period , and in those cases where other practititioners have failed , & perseverance in his plan , without restraint in diet , or hindrance from business , will ensure to the patient a permanent and radical cure . A complete knowledge of the symptoms and treatment of these insidious and dangerous diseases , can only be acquired by those who are in daily practioe , ina have previously gone through a regular course of Medical Instruction ; for , unfortunately , there the hundreds who annually fall victims to the ignorant uso of Mercury and other dangerous remedies , administered by illiterate men , who ruin the constitution by suffering disease to get into the system , whioh being carried by the circulation of the blood into all parts of the body , the whole frame becomes tainted with venereal poison , and most unhappy eonsequences ensue , at one time affecting the skin , particularly the head and face , with eruptions and ulcers , close ) y resembling , and often treated as scurvy , at another period producing the most violent pain ? in the limbs and bones , which are frequently mistaken for rheumatism ; thus the whole frame becomes debilitated and decayed , ' and a lingering deatk putt a periodto their dreadful sufferings . What a grief for a young person in the very prime of lite , to be snatched out of time , and from all the enjoyments of life , by a disease always local at first , and which never proves fatal if properly treated , as all its fatal results are owing either to neglect or ignoranoe . Mr . W . ' b invariable rule is to give a Card to each of his Patients as a guarantee for cure , whioh he pledges himself to perform , or return his fee .
