ffr rt « Hi fl arrangement with them . The meeting took' place on the evening aboTe-named , when a -number of- Chartists attended . Mr . Sheffield , dentist , wa » called to the chair , after which the meeting ¦ was addreesed by seTeral members of the Anti-Com Law League , the Chartists listening to their observa tions and argnmeiita with great patience ; after the former were done , several of the Cliartist leaders Severally addresad the meeting , to the effect , that while they strongly repudiated the existence of the Corn Laws , as well as all other monopolies , they considered it perfectly useless to waste time and money in peti--4 ioaiag toff-Bouse of Commons for t ± i « Ir repeal , and that inere wa « no hope of redress b = ing afforded to the paopie until that House was thoroughly informed by

The Chairman , however , refused to put it to the meeting , and consequently vacated the chair , when to the great chagrin of the Leaguers , Mr . We need scarcely add , that the resolution was carried amidst great ohecring ; after which three hearty che « rs were given for the Charter , three for Mr ., O'Connor , and other litding Chartists . We cannot here state our Tiews on this most important subject—the repeal of the C ^ rn Laws—which would differ very materially from tb « arguments adva-csd by the agitators of this gnestkm- ; - tor "we see good reason to raspect taeir sin-T > eri : j " . inasmnca a 3 they tike a very improper , partial , and on ; :-sided Tietr of ihis grazl and important question

Why do the anti-Corn Law agitators no : join the Chartists in their reasonable demand for the Charter , which would be the means of destroying uii monopolies , and securing good Government ? Bccak tbey are not sincere ; they wish to profit them-• tires , as tiey have always hitherto done , at the ecpeace of the people . The landlords haTe robbed the pao ^ Ie by their cursed Corn Liw monopoly : the manufacturers have r # bbvd the peopfe , because their labour was not protected against the pernicious effects of machinery ; aud now , when they can rob them no loas ^ T , they vrait the people to assist them in robbing the undo-araers . > o , no ; the people must not be thus ¦ acridcad between two ttueres .

moment , had been very quiet ard attentive , but upon this insult being given to the meeting , Mr . Smith rose to address toe peeple , but met mucn interruption from t&fi gentlemen ( 1 ) on the platform , who , in their turn , were met with a trenjendous storm of hisses . Mr . fmith proposed the Irsf resolution , "That the people petition for s separation of Church aad State . It appeared , from the examination of witnesses , that the foreman of the railway contractor forwarded a letter to Tamworth by the prisoners , directing them to use the truck , otherwise larry , in which they sat , and by means of poles , propelled themselves on the railway at the rate of nine miles an hour .
