S3ntiiriei/D Mahket.—Mosday.—The General...
S 3 nTiiriEi / D _Mahket . —Mosday . —The general tone of trade at Smithficld this morning was heavy , and a decline in prices for everything took place . A clearance was far from being effected by the close . The cause of the reaction is attributed to the plentiful supply offering , and the comparative duluess in the retail demand . The number of Beasts was 2 _. 8 S 0 , whieh met with a dull inquiry , at a fall of -id . per stone for inferior coarse quality , and 2 d . upon middling and the best descriptions , ; The supply of Sheep and Lambs comprised 23 . 250 head of fair average quality , The Mutton trade was heavy , and prices declined from ; , 2 d , to 4 d . per stone . The Lamb trade was the finest of all , but buyers were not very active . Tlie warmer state of the weather is favourable to the _tvada in . this laud

Newcastle Cattle Market . —Tuesday . —At our market this morning there was a good show of Beasts , which was ofa superior quality ; tlie smallest and worst supply of Sheep we have had for the last four years , and a middling supply of Swine . In the Beast market , notwithstanding the increase of numbers from last week , there was a good demand for all ' sorts , prices steady , and all _Isold up . In the Sheep market there was a brisk demand , and prices were a shade higher , and all sold . A slow demand for Tigs : prices looking down , and a part left unsold . The following quotations were fullv sup . ported . . Prices : —Beasts , small cutters , Cs . 3 d . ; Steers of the best quality , ( Is . _BtitMiNoiiAM _Coax Exchange . —Wednesday . —Duvine Hie present week but little Wheat has been offering , and it has realised somewhat over the currency of last market ( lay . Barley continues in limited demand , Oats held for Is . per qr . more money , which is only complied with for limited quantities . Few transactions reported ia _lleau" ! Lkeds Cok . v Makket . —Our arrival of all Grain is short Good Wheat is readily taken offat Is . per quarter attvmce to-day , and there is a little more doing in secondarv qualities , at late rates . There is a steadv sale for irood Barley , at full prices . In Oats and Beans there k no alteration . _° " _Livmti'ooL Corn _Mahkm . —Mo . viur . —Since hist _Tues day the importation of Grain , Meal , and Flow from Ireland has been larger than for several weeks past ' , and with the exception of G _910 bairels of Flour from the United States , the arrivals from abroad have beta moderate . The business in free Wheat during the week has been on a moderate scale , and prices have been barely maintained . Flour lias had a dull sale , and both sucks and barrels have been sold tlie turn cheaper . The de . maud for Oats has been limited , and there has been littk change in their value . Oatmeal has sold slowly . Barley , Beans and Peas have had merely a retail sale . Indian Corn continues in request for both Ireland and Scotland , and full prices are obtained , The bonded market has attraetd more attention than of late , and several transac . tions have oeeured in both Wheat and Flour , but no change
ean be made on late quotations . Manchester Corn Market . —Saturday . —Although the business transacted in Flour during the week has not been of so active a character as mig ht have been antiiipated from the reduced state of tho stocks of that article , there has nevertheless been a fair , consumptive demand for good fresh qualities , for whieh the improved currency of the proceeding market day was firmly maintained . In cither Oats or Oatmeal there was little passing with . out alteration in prices . At our market this niomin" the demand for Wheat was on a limited scale ; _tlie ° best description were , h owever , held for rather more money _, but in other kinds no change can be noted . Approved brands of Flour were in steady though not Jivelv request , at previous rates . Oats were but little inquired for ; whilst Oatmeal of choice quality , on the contrary , was much _sought after , and realized fully the prices of this day se ' iinight . ' . ll AKRIKGTO . V Coit . V MARKET—WeDSESDAV . —At tlliS
market there was a fair attendance , but not " much Wheat offering . There was a free sale at 3 d . per bushel advance , say 7 s 9 d to Ss , Ss 3 d and 8 s 6 'd per < 0 lbs . Oats , 3 s 9 d to Is oer 451 bs ; Barley , 4 s 6 d to 4 s Ud per GOlbs . Flour , best seconds . 3 ils ; common do ., 37 s ; some dealers , how ever , got Is per load more for each quality . Meal , 35 s to " 3 Cs per 240 ibs . Of Potatoes there was the largest supply that we have had this year , but a very slow sale at Is to Is Gd per load less money . Of pinkeyes , the bulk fetched 12 s 3 d , some 13 s ; farmers and short tops , 9 s per load of 2351 bs . Wakefield Con . v Makket . —Friday . —The market is again thinly supplied with grain . There was u good inquiry for fresh and fine samples of Wheat , at an advance of Is . per quarter , common descriptions ' also participated in tlie improvement . Heavy Barley rather dearer , in other sorts no alteration . Fine small Beans a trifle higher . Oats and shelling , each in better request , at t ' uUy pre . vious prices . Malt easv sale .
Ilt'Li . Coiix Market . —TuESDAy . —We have to report 3 better feeling in the Corn trade during the past week . There has been some inquiry for old Wheat , which has led to moderate business at full prices . The weather has been unsettled and cold . At to day ' s market we had only a small supply of Wheat from the farmers , which , with the better accounts from Loudon , caused our millers to give fully Is . per qr . more money ; there was more doing in free foreign , and , owing to the firmness of holders , we quote tlie same advance as iu english ; in bonded no transactions . Spring Corn unaltered . Linseed still con _tiuuci very flat . Rape seed the same as Inst week . Linseed Cakes keep firm , without much _bufiness passing . Rape Cakes are in fair demand at the quotations . Bones have a downward tendency , nitli very large supplies . Guano is but dull .
_Richmond ( Yorkshire ) Corn Market . —Saturday . — We had u plentiful supply of all kinds of grain in our Market to day . Wheat sold from 5 s . to Sis ; oats os , to 4 s id barley , 4 s . to 4 s . 3 d ; beans 4 s . Gd . to us . Ud . per bushel .
State Of Trade Leeds.—There Has Not Been...
STATE OF TRADE Leeds . —There has not been quite so much business done , either on Saturday or Tuesday , as an the two pre . vious market days . As regards quantity , however , more flue and middle qualities of cloths were sold than for some time pr . st . Prices keep steady , and the stock oi ' geods , generally , is getting less in the hands of the munulacturerSi Tbeve has also been less doing in the warehouses this week , but more than was thecase a few weeks ago . —Leedt Mercury . Manchester . —We have had but a very moderate business in cloth since Tuesday , especially in domestic and printing cloth , which are depressed below all other kinds , Sheetings , though better to sell than those staled , are anything butMirisk ; and the market closes heavily for all descriptions , tlie _Mlk trade is also in a most depressed state , and without any immediate prospect of improve _, ment . Twist is by no . means so brisk as it ought to be at tills s "ison ; prices in no way changed since Tuesday .
_Buad-our , Wool There has been more inquiry tor wool , and , 011 the whole , move business done . The stock in t ' _-c market of such things as are wanttd . is only small , which arises from the growers seeking prices tlmt ' oaanot be realized here , and the staplers hold , from seeing that they cannot rex _> hice their stocks at a _jirufit . Yarns : The firmness in the wool market compels the spinners to seek an advance for May . delivery , as the rates current only barely pays the cost . of the raw _materials , whieh , from the supply both in the market and into country being so small * ,, renders all hope of relief from wool , at * a reduced price , very distant . The diminished production , owing to machinery totally idle aud others partially _eniiih _. yed , is telling favourably towards an ' amendment , as there are only small stocks , and tlie spinners working to order . Piece : There isa good deal of business doing iu allkinds of goods suitable for the autumn , both by the export houses and the home trade merchants . The fancy trade is still very depressed , and the stocks on hand very much reduced , as the makers are unwilling to ' make except to order , which has messed very heavily on tiiu operatives so engaged , as they have only been partially employed through the winter .
HuDDEUSFiELD . —There has been a fair amount of business done to-day in fabrics suited to the season , although a due caution is observed on the part tf buyers to select only for their immediate wants . There has been a slight improvement in the warehouses ( luring the week . Halifax . —There are rather more favourable synvp toms in business this week , the demand having ' been more animated both for wool and manufactured goods , than for many weeks past . Prices remain stationary . UociiDALE _Fiannel Makket . —We have had a steady d"inand for pieces to-day , but tlie manufacturers complain that the prices are too low to remunerate them for their labour and capital . There is very little change in the wool market either in price or quantif y sold to report , but the prevailing opinion is that a ' better trade would soon cause an advance in the raw material . Heckmokdwiks . —We have had two brisk markets this week , and prices are a little ririner . Manufacturers complain fiat they cannot obtain the raw material at the same price they could a few weeks ago .
Leicester . —A few shipping orders are executing for regular hosiery and fancy goods , but we do not he . tr ol any oidcrs for making , so that the workmen are no better employed . The home trade is a shade better . The cotton _si-asou being now approaching to a close worsted yarns arc more in demaud , and are firm in price . Wools arc steady , and combing skins is in good request . Glasgow . —Cotton Yarn : The bus . ness _doiii" sti '; l continues limited , being confined to the immediate wants oi the manufacturer .-, and prices _ai-e without _change . Cottou goods : The market continues much in _ths same state as reported last week , but on the whole we think that trade geuevally is improving . —Iron : Prices are as undernotcd ' . —Pig iron £ 3 10 s ., bar iron £ 10 , nail reds £ 11 , boiler plates and sheets £ 13 _li's . per ton . —American
produce : Sweet barrel tlour , best Canadian , o _' - _' s . Gd . _ln-tt , sour ditto , Sis . Od . per barrel ; 1 st Montreal pots , 23 s . Cd . to 24 s ., 1 st ditto , pearl . ' . ' 3 s . Od , lard , common , 47 s . to 48 s ., ditto refined , 50 s ., cheese . States , ordinary , 52 s ., ditto best , 55 s ., butter , Canadian , 70 s . to 73 s . per cwt . The flour market is quite firm : the large quantity bonded , whieh will not be released before July at the earliest and the small stocks ot * consumers , cause holders to look for a moderate rise before that tiuic . Sour _fr' _® scarce , and brings as good a price as sneet . Ashes artflat , although the stuck on hand is not heavv . hard and cheese keep moving pretty freely at the ' above rates . There have been some sales of Canadian butter during the week , at prices rather lower than the quotation , the quantity being indifferent . winch
_iNoTTisoHAM , — The wrought _; cotton hose branch , employs the greatest number of hands , but uoes not pro . ducethe greatest quantity of stockings , is still in a _ depressed state , tlie extra-tine hose graduall y disappearing . The cut-up hose frames , throug h all the numerous departments and variations , are rather brisker than the wrought hose , The COlton g love branch U still vcry guod ; but we are grieved to state that the sdk g love tr . iuu has met with a serious check . The drawer anil pantaloon branch is not bv any means worse , most oi the nanus having emplovment . The silk hose branch , w . ietner plain-knotted " or ribbed , is becoming gradually cxtniu , every vuar _levelling the number 01 frames employed . i" _» fancy- lace trade is reviving a shade . We regret to say t" _" the warp trade has not amended . Leeds .-Wo are g lad to say that the woollen trade ol this town aud neig hbourhood is showing signs otiniprmeincut , tliimeli "O t to any very great extent . A good amount of business has been done tins « _-wMwtli at flu . Cloth Halls and the warehouses . The demand turtle n , «¦ mwHtU * of cloth is better than it taw occu tor » , m > o 11 " -part , stock * aw low and pnctsnriu .
1 . ivcAsiiiiiE . —The trade in cotton mills at Oldham is a _littlVbetter than it was a fortnight ago , and the bauds cenerally have full employment . Tlie joiners and _cartiei'ters are vet on strike , aud are likely to remain so at _invent . The woollen cloth trade at Saddlcwortli is ill » _iimderatelv healthy state : wr _. _jies are rather low , and pr . fits upon manufactured goods were scarcely ever known to be less . The hatting branches at Oldham , Denton , Ashton , Stockport and vicinities , is better than it wab six weeks ago , and yet the _operatives on an average nan not mure than four or five days' work per week , »;« _wu- 'cs than tliev had at most places two years ago . _luert is less building going on in the above-named _dinners th * spring than there was last year at this Mine . 1 » _- lUiiiucl trade in Kocltdale is slowly improving , but manufacturer' - - make loud fompknnts ot the smalluessot profits . The other trades appear to be only in a moderate state . Calico block printing at Church Parish is better than » was th ree » ivks » _go , but operaiiveB aru only _parliallJ employed . The silk trade in the towns round Manchester is iti a precarious state , owing to an expectation that _«> alteration will take place in the raw material .
