Lon»O>T Cons Exchange, Mo.Vday, August 4...
Lon » o > _t Cons Exchange , Mo . vday , August 4 . —We have still very unsettled weather , but on the ivh 0 | slight improvement has taken place , the show er * which have fallen during the last lew days _liavino _* been of a partial character , whilst a material rise has occurred in the temperature , ' the reports respecting thc appearance ofthe growing crops are still very contradictory . Tho complaints in regard to the wheat plant have rather increased than diminished . We arc , however , inclined to thiuk that the real mischief would not prove Yery important provided the next month or six weeks should be auspicious . As yet tn >
have heard of no wheat being cut , but with a fcw really fine days a commencement would probably be immediately made in the early districts . A great deal of excitement prevailed in the wheat trade throughout the past week , and at most ofthe markets lield on Friday and Saturday prices 2 s to 33 ) and at some places even Is per q _* t * . above those pre _viously realised were obtained . Whether this advance will be maintained will , in our opinion , depend in a great measure on the weather ; on the whole we arc rather inclined to look for a slight reaction . To-day at Mark-lane there was certainly much less inclination to purchase , and having a larger show of wheat by land-carriage samples from the home counties than on any former occasion for several weeks past , an
effectual check was given to the upward tendency . In the early part ofthe morning high terms were insisted on , but thc millers held off altogether until ( actors consented to accept last Monday ' s prices , and even at the rates then current the demand was by no means brisk , a considerable proportion of the supply remaining unsold at the close of business . Holders of free foreign wheat were not pressing sellers , and with quite a retail inquiry very little disposition was manifestcd to accept less money . For bonded parcels Yery high rates continued to be asked ; there was , however , less inclination to enter into speculative investments than at the close of the week , and comparatively few bargains were closed . Fine Dantzic was held at over 50 s , and other sorts at corresponding
terms . Thc lately established advance on flour was not freely paid , and the sales were on a somewhat restricted scale . There was scarcely any English barley fresh up , and though the inquiry for this grain was not particularly active a small ad _vatice on the currency of this day se ' nnight was in partial instances realised ou superior qualities . Malt was likewise held with much firmness , and thc host descriptions were hardly obtainable on as low terms as on Monday last . Thc fresh arrivals of oats were moderate ; having , however , received a very good supply during the past week ( principally from Ireland ) , tlisro was no scarcity of this grain to-day . The principal dealers have
latterly got pretty well into stocks , they were consequently not much inclined to buy ; having , however , a good country demand , a fair amount of business was done at prices much the same as those at wliich sales were made eight days ago . There were scarcely anv beans of home growth offering , and foreign , whether free or in bond , were held at high rates ; the actual sales made were therefore unimportant , but the tendency of prices were rather upwards than otherwise . The show of peas was likewise small , a parcel or two of new wore exhibited of fair quality . Wc could not learn what prices were made for these tho first arrival of thc season .
Losdo . y _Smitiu'iku ) _Gatxl _-e Market , _Moskay , August 4—During the past week the imports of live stock from abroad for our markets have been on an extensive scale , they having amounted to 17 o oxen and cows , together with 1 G 3 sheep and 27 calves , per the Columbine , Batavier , and Giraffe steamers , Irom Rotterdam , while the Caledonia has arrived from Hamburgh , having on board 50 oxen . To-day we had on oiler 80 oxen and cows , and 12 calves , iVoni tho abovc ports , in wliich , however , though there were some useful animals amongst them , a decided falling off was apparent in their general quality . Tlic demand for thein was , therefore , inactive at somewhat depressed currencies , yet nearly thc whole oi them found buyers . In consequence of the
comparativel y high rates ruling here , very few shipments have been lately made to ouroutports . At Hull only about 90 beasts have conic to hand since our last ; still , wc find that two cargoes comprising 15 oxen and cows havo been lately landed , and disposed of by public auction at Dundee . The oxen from llolsteih sold at from £ 11 to £ 1 G 5 s ., those from Jutland . £ 10 to £ \ : \ each . The purchases were wholly made by the graziers . The foregoing arrivals , " added to tliose previously reported , form the following totals of beasts and sheep for tho present year . Beasts G 19 IJ , sheep 1843 . Fresh up , to-day , the arrivals of beasts from our own grazing districts were somewhat on the increase , while a further slight improvement was noticed in tlieir quality , especially in thatof those
from the western and midland counties . Although the attendance of both town and country buyers was rather numerous , the beef trade was in a sluggish state , at a decline in the quotations obtained on Monday last of 2 d . per Sib . ; the highest figure for the best Scots not exceeding 4 s . -Id . per Sib ; and at which [ a , clearance was with difficulty effected . From Norfolk , Suffolk , Essex , and Cambridgeshire wc received about _*! 00 Scots , homebreds , and shorthorns ; froni the northern districts , including SO by railway from Newcastle-upon-Tyne , 200 shorthorns , ifcc . ; from the western and midland , counties , COO _Hcrefbrds , runts , Dcvons , & c . ; from other parts of England , 500 of various breeds , and Irom Scotland 3 S 0 horned and polled Scots ; the remainder of the supply being derived from thi
e neghbourhood of the metropolis . For _tlw time of year , the number of sheep was very limited , and their condition was by no means good , notwithstanding the plentiful supply of fodder ' on'the whole of our large stock farms . " The pvimest old Downs wero in steady request , at full rates of currency ,- but all other breeds were a slow inquiry at barely stationary prices . There were very fine store animals on offer , and for which hi gh rates were again demanded . The supply of lambs was small , owing to which the lamb trade was active at full quotations _, lhe foreign calves found ready buyers , at from Is . to 4 s . Cd . per 81 b . Generally speaking , the veal trade was steady , at last week ' s figures . In pigs , thcsiipply ot which was small , only a limited business was doing atJate rates .

Manchester Cons Mahket , Saturday , August 2 . —During the week frequent heavy showers of rain have fallen m this neighbourhood , almost daily , and the . weather altogether has been of a very untoward character , causing much excitement in the trade , and a task demand for both wheat and flour , aU turtlier considerable enhancement in prices . Oats and oatmeal , however , have still failed to participate in the
improvement above noted ; bnt in thc business passing their value was unaltered . At our market this morning the transactions in wheat were to a fair extent , at an advance ot _" 6 d . per 10 lbs , on both English and Irish . With a free sale for flour middle qualities must he quoted 4 s . and the best descriptions i . Per „ sack higher , 48 s . having been realised for choice Norfolk whites . Oats excited rather more attention than of late , and were Is . per 45 _fts dearer . J or oatmeal thero was also rather an improved inquiry , but no amendment in prices could be obtained .
Liverpool Corn Market , Mondat , August 4 . —We have a good supply of wheat and flour from Ireland , but small as regards oats and other articles ; from abroad the principal import is about 10 , 000 barrels of Canadian flour . The only change in the duties this week is a decline of Is . per quarter on foreign peas _, flic weather during the week has been cold and ungenial , and the reported injury to the growing crops of wheat has induced a heavy amount of business * on S ™"' On _fnfoJ an advance of _fnllr id , per bushel was established on English and Irish wheat
. , and Gd . on bonded . Irish flour was readily sold at an improvement of 3 s per sack , and : Canadian barrels nere nearlv ( as much dearer . United States Hour , in bond , has been in request , lout far holders arc disposed to sell at a market value , The limited supply ot _ivislvoats has enabled holders to obtain a little improvement on late prices ; thc demand , however , is only small , and oatmeal finds a merely retail sale at fully last quotations .
