Loxdon Conx Exchange, Monday, Dec. 22.— ...
Loxdon Conx Exchange , Monday , Dec . 22 . — In the past week the arrivals of wheat of home produce for our market were moderately good , but by no means extensive . Of English barley a large quantity came to hand , while the receipts of all other articles of grain coastwise were seasonably large . The imports of foreign and colonial wheat and Hour were considerably on tho increase , but those of all other descriptions of grain were rathersmall . Freeh up to-day—owing in a great measure to the late decline in the quotations here , the supplies of English wheat , coastwise as well as by land carriage and sample , were very small , and of very inferior qualitv ;
hence the show of parcels of both red and white was by far more limited than we have had to report for some time past . This circumstance , together with the fact that most of the large dealers , who have lately refrained from purchasing beyond what they have required to meet their immediate wants , out of short ; stock , caused tlie demand for all kinds ^ of English wheat to rule firm , at an advance in the currencies realised on this day se ' nnight of from Is to 2 s per qr , at which a good clearance was effected by the factors . Notwithstanding the large arrivals of foreign wheat , St . OOO qrs last week , the show of parcels ( dutv paid ) to-day was very small . Still , however , the safe for that article was in a very sluggish statethe
, transactions being wholly of a retail nature , at last week ' s prices . Corn under lock was so inactive that prices ruled almost nominal . This " alliescquallv to wheat , barley , oats , beans , and peas . The show of English barley was large ; yet , owing to the out-of condition state in which the principal portion of it came to band , the best malting qualities sold somewhat freely , at full rates of currency . In grinding and distilling sorts ,- next to nothing was doin ^ . Of malt , we had a moderate supply on show . All kinds were in sluggish request , at barely , but at nothing
quotable beneath the prices paid on this dsv se'nnbdit Ihe supply of oafs was seasonabl y good . The dealers being rather out of stock , rather more inclination was manifested to do business in that article , vet the sales concluded were only on a moderate scale , and no advance took place m the value . At the close of the market , a clearance was not effected . The show ot beans was moderately extensive . Most kinds were in sow request , at last week ' s prices . White and Maple peas were quite as dear ; but other kinds were very dull . Flour moved off heavily , the highest price of the best flour made not exceed , g 57 sf pe

To-day we had sale CO Hamburgh and Dutch beasts , andoOOaheepthe latter wholly from Rotterdam ; the former were disposed of at from £ 15 to £ 22 , the latter 80 s . to 47 s , per head . _ At the outports , CO sheep and SO bewj have been imported from Holland . According to fte official accounts made up for the last three years nj to the 5 th of November in each year , the folloivinj were the imports of foreign stock in the United Kin ! dom during those period : — * 1 S 43 . 1844 . The above great increase in the importation ci sheep must be chiefly attributed to the unusually li $ priaes at which those of ' some-fed have been sellinjia this market during the last three months ; henccfo ther large arrivals may bo expected from Holy during the coming season . Considering this was tit first Monday following the great Christmas market , the supply of beasts on offer this morning was gooi and of very superior quality , especially as relates : c the Dcsvons , Hereford . * , and shorthorns . The bat qualities were in fair request at Friday ' s depress ] currencies—the highest figures , ranging from Is . 2 A to 4 s . 4 d . per 81 b . ; but all other kinds were a ilui inquiry , and the quotations were with difficulty supported . At the elOie of the market 11 total eleaWi was not effected . With tho exception of about 6 / 1 beasts , divided in about equal portions from ite western , midland , and northern districts , the bulki supply » -as chiefly the refuse of last week ' s arrivaii The supply of sheep was again limited , but above a average quality , particularly that portion of it & rived from Essex , Sussex , aud Norfolk . The gnii falling off _ in the numbers induced the salesmen !) demand higher rates , which , however , were not sii mitted to by the butchers ; consequently , the rauCa trade may be considered steady , at prices aboutcqul to those obtained onthig day se ' nnight . The fee arrival of lambs , ten in number , took place from k Isle of- Wight . Their quality was good , anil 6 i average prices were obtained for them .
