Services of religion , especially on Sunday Evenings , had , of late , greatly increased , that the Library connected with the Congregation was also in a flourishing condition , and that several persons , not regularly attending the Chapel , had become
subscribers to it . To the Sunday Schoolvthe-great-means-of-instTucting the rising generation , considerable attention has been paid ; and improvements in the mode of teaching , recommended by the Minister , have been adopted and pursued with the most complete success . A Course of Lectures on the doctrines
of Natural and Revealed Religion , delivered by the Minister between the Morning and Eve ' ning Services , promises to be the means of effecting much good by exciting inquiry respecting the important subjects of
religion . After the report had been read , the children of the Sunday School were examined , and gave proofs of this improvement , which could not fail to show the utility of the institution , and the excellence of
the mode of teaching pursued in it . At the conclusion of the Evening Service the Minister , in the presence of a large Congregation , after a suitable address to the children of the Sunday School and their parents , distributed rewards of merit to those
children who had distinguished themselves during the past year . From the favourable impression made by the proceedings of the day on the minds even of those not connected ¦ with the Congregation , it is hoped that the cause of Unitarianiam in
this place , will derive no inconsiderable advantage . We trust that the commencement of each succeeding year will be observed by the holding of a meeting like the above ; calculated as it is to rouse the zeal of professed Unitarians , and to lessen the prejudice of others against Unitarian principles .

Portsmouth , Jan . 6 , 1833 . My Christian Friends ,
I am desirous to take the earliest op portunity afforded ; by my partial recovery from the affliction with which it has pleased God to visit me , of making known to you , that I feel it necessary to relinquish the duties of the pastoral office among you .
It has always been my determination to continue in the ministry only as long as I could do so with satisfaction to my own mind , and with the hope of usefulness to my Congregation ; and I now feel that the time is come , when it is my duty to act upon this resolution .
I have therefore to request you will be kind enough to consider me as ceasing to be your Pastor , after the fourth Sunday in the ensuing March , by which time I hope suifi-
