SIR , Did it necessarily follow , as Mr , Farmer seems to have thought , that , ' . if the temptation of Christ is neither to be understood as an outward transaction nor a diabolical delusion , it mv $ t have been a divine vision , " * all who admit ( as I do ) the authenticity of the evangelical narratives of that event , and at the same time reject ( as I also do ) the two former hy pothcses , could not avoid adopting the third or Mr .
