Received Text , after Jhe statement of the Editors in the Preface , and that ofCQ One of the Editors /' in p . 36 of your last volume , who there says , that they were
scrupulousy exact in noticing every deviation from the adopted text /' Nor can I quite coincide in the exp lanation which the Editor has g iven in his last letter of the statement in the Preface ; for it
app ears to me that , m many cases , variations have been noticed as minute and as little affecting the sense , as those which have been passed by unnoticed . —I am willing to hope that , in the next
impression , the Editors will verify their statement : and if , in so doing , my labour should in any way lessen theirs , I shall feel more satisfied in having made the

Improved Vjersion . April 5 , 1810 * P . S . Your correspondent N . in his Estimate of Strictures on the I . V . " ( p . 118 ) has been led into an error by a mistake of my *
self or the printer , in vol . iy . p . 281 . In the paragraph referring to the punctuation , ray meaning is at present in is rep resented ; but the error may be rectified by
reading wish for regret . —N * seems to think ( p , llj ) that the Re . viewer expresses some surprise at the number of variations from Newcome ; if he will again read pp . 216 , 217 , of vol . iv . he will
see that he is mistaken . My regret , ^ that the I . V . is not more like that published by authority , " depends upon the conviction , that many of Newcome ' s departures
from it , were not rendered neces - sary by a regard to perspicuity or correctness . In all such cases , I should be well pleased to see th ^ I . V . reduced to the Public Version . In some cases it has been with great advantage ; see among others I Tim . vi . 15 .

behalf of her destitute orphans . There are few , very few cases , in which our feelings as men , and our duty as Christians , are more powerfully called upon , than in such as this ; where the natural susceptibility of the youthful mind has been increased by the dawning of a virtuous education , and
