TO POLICY-HOLDERS in the STANDARD LIFE ASSURANCE COMPANY . —Days of Grace and Renewal of Policies . —It has beeu the practice of this Company to sustain claims by death , which have arisen within the 30 days of grace , subject to paymeu't of tho premium by executors the of the assured or others interested before the expiry of that period , and it will be perceived that there is a condition in each policy to that effect ; but recently a claim has been made against tho Company under circumstances which rendered it necessary for the Directors to decide whether , in tho event of a person assured dying within the Days of Grace , and / the premium not being paid before the expiry of the period , the claim should be sustained . The Directors having resolved that this claim be admitted and payment made ( the premium , which was not paid within the Days of Grace , being to be deducted from the claim at settlement ) , this decision will henceforward regulate the Company's practice , not only with reference tp the period of 30 dnys allowed for the renewal of all policies , lmt also with reference to the extended period of IS months , applicable to certain policies , as explained in the resolutions annexed , which are an extension of those adopted by the Company in 1856 . At tho expiry of such period of 18 months , reckoning not from the end of tno Days of Grace , but Irom tho regular date when tho premium foil due , the policy shall be entirely forfeited , and tho Directors shall calculate tho value of uuch assurance according to their usual practice , and carry tho same to 11 " Forfeited Policy Account , " to the credit of the persons who were interested in the assurance so forfeited , to remain there till tho end of five years from tho regular date when the premium fell duo which was not paid- But if no oliiim « ha " be made and substantiated for such calculated valuo within tho said period of ilvo years , tho same shall bo carried into too general funds of tho Company for thoir own use .
