Tliecbjecfc of this Company is to develop the resources of certain Collieries , situated in the most central and "best portion of the well-known Coal Basin of Mons , in Belgium . They comprise two distinct sections , of which part is already in full working operation , and the remainder consists of Concessions from the Belgian Government , granted on condition that the Coal shall be worked . % The unworked Concession , known as "Bonne Victoire , " situated at Ascnrillies , and those applied for , severally called " Mons Nimy , " and " Ghlin , " occupy an area of 18 , 000 acres ; 156 well ascertained Coal Seams run through their whole . extent . - ; ' : ' . - - ¦ ¦ ;¦ . ; - ¦ . - - ' ¦ ¦' . " . ' ; ¦ . ; ¦¦•¦ '¦ The . Collieries in full work are five , -viz ., " Bonne Veine , " "Bonne Esperauce , " " Seize Actions , " " S « e , Ceeile , " and " Mididu Fleim . " They comprise en area of 2000 acres , with the right of working sixty-two Seams of Coal . It is calculated that their produce could bo largely increased , within four years , at an outlay of 20 , OOOZ . ( See Engineer ' s Report . ) The plant and other stock are ample , well-constructed , and substantial ; the Engines now at work give an . aggregate poweT of 939 horses . These Collieries are now yielding a minimum net profit of 40 , 000 / . per annum ( See'Report ) , and ifc is agreed that a preferential interest of 6 per cent , per annum on the Capital , now to he raised , shall be the first charge on these returns . The confidence of the vendors of tho working Collieries , in the success of their new undertaking , is further shown by their agreeing to accept in part payment of their property 20 , 000 Shares ( representing 200 . 000 Z . ) , denominated B . Shares ; -which , though considered as paid-up , are only to receive dividends in proportion to the amount paid up on tho A . Shares , offered to the public . The remainder of the purchase ¦ money , consisting of 254 . 00 OZ ., is to be paid in Cash out of the arsfc funds of the Company , afc any timo within two years from the incorporation of the Company . Two-thirds of the above 20 , 000 Shares will bo annulled , should tho new Concessions , contrary to expectation , fail in yielding Coal of a good commercial quality , and this proportion of tho Shares in question will not he handed over to the sellers until such produce be realized . Tho Coal is generally of a semi-bituminous quality . It is loaded at the several pit-mouths into tho waggons of the Northern Railway of Franco for conveyance to Paris and the towns and manufactories along the lino , at which there is a great demand ; and also into those of tho Haut ct Bas Tlpnu' Railway ( which traverses the Collieries of tbe district , and connects them with tho net-work of tho State . Railways of Belgium ) for the supply of tho towns and tho . extensive manufacturing districts of Flanders : tho greater portion of tho Coal , however , ia convoyed by tho Cond 6 Canal , on the banks of which there are extensive sheds , where the boats are loaded . Tho existing facilities for transit will bo further extended by tho . Railway now in construction , between Mons , Haumont , and Maubeuge . Tho constant demand by Railways , Iron-works , Gas-works , and for other manufacturing and household purposos , is more than sufficient to absorb , at all tunes , tho utmost produco of the Collieries . At tho request of tho Directors , a , detailed report on tho present state of tho Collieries at work , and to bo worked , ™ J £ ? ed b ; L } ° emlnent French Civil Engineer , Mr . P . N . Dudot , which report has been confirmed " by Mr . H . Gain , a local Mining Engineer of great oxporionco . Subsequently , Mr . Charles Manby , C . E ., was deputed to verify tho statements made . A majority of tho Directors have also lately made a personal visit to the Collieries , and having taken every means to satisfy themselves of tho soundness of tho undertaking , and the truthfulness of tho above reports , they now feel justified in inviting tho investment of Capital in tho Association-« f ^? nr Capl i .
