A LLSOPP'S PALE ALES and BAEON " j \ Likbig . Although not in the habit of replying to anonymous advertisements , and although they cannot condescend to answer some of a very discreditable nature to the parties concerned , Messrs . Ailsopp and Sons are compelled to take notice of an announcement headed with tlie name of Professor Libbig , to which an invidious publicity has been given . Messrs . Allsopp akd Sons regret this necessity , as they have reason to suppose that advertisement has emanated from an unworthy jealousy on the part of those who should rather have shown gratitude for the labour and expense which Messrs . Allsopp and Sons have not spared to remove the otherwise ruinous prejudice impending over the Pale and Bitter Ales of this country , from the mistake of a French chemist . Messrs . Ai / lsopp and Sons would now call the attention of the public to the following points : — That the original letter of Bakon Liebig is addressed to Mr . Henry Allsopp , individually : — That he therein intimates that he had been applied to by Mr . Hesst Ailsopp on the subject , and that his opinion had been requested , of course , for publication by that gentleman : — That he therein acknowledges the receipt of samples of Ai , i > sopb ' s PaiiB Ales , from the London , bottlera , as well as other samples of the same , sent to him direct , by private friends . On these he , specifically , founds the opinion reported by him to Mr . Henry Ailso ' in that letter—the general mention of the Burton brewers being incidental : — Thus , then , the letter of Bakon Liebig , having been written for Messrs . Alisopp and Sons , and sent to Mr . Henry Alls opp , on the subject of Messrs Allsopp and Sons' Ales , they , having , as they had , Baeojt Liebig ' s authority to do so , were fully entitled to publish it . Messrs . Allsopp and Sons consider it not unnecessary to add , that their intercourse with Baron Liebig is of some duration ; they having frequently consulted the learned Professor on certain processes of brewing . And they are confident , therefore , that this last letter , anonymously issued , must either have been greatly mutilated previously to publication , or that it could only have been sent in reply to some wrong impression conveyed . to that eminent man ia respect to an alleged undue publicity given to his opinions . Burton-upon-Trent , August 25 , 1852 . PROFESSOK LIEBIG'S OPINION OF ALLSOPP'S PALE ALE . " The specimens of your Palo Ale sent to me afforded me another opportunity of confirming its valuable qualities . I am myself an admirer of this beverage , and my own experience enables me to recommend , it , in accordance with the opinion of the most eminent English physicians , as a very agreeable and efficient tonic , and as a general beverage , both for the invalid and the robust . " Giessen , May 6 , 1852 . Justus Libbig . " ALLSOPP'S PALE ALES . —BAKON LIEBIG OK CERTAIN RECENT ANONYMOUS ADVERTISEMENTS . Messrs . Allsopp and Sons have great satisfaction in being enabled to publish the following extract of a letter , just received , dated Munich , Sept . 12 th , 1852 , from Baron Liebig to Mr . Henry Allsopp , Brewery , Burton-on-Trcnt . "To my great astonishment and concern , my attention has lately boon called to several anonymous articles and advertisements headed by my name , such as in the , whoso author altogether misrepresents tlio motives of my remarks , and ovori goes so i ' nr as to say ' that 1 had never analyzed , your beor , nor perhaps ever tasted it in my lifo , * and to allege a retractation on my part of the original statement . " " 1 emphatically declare that I had not the slighostknowledgo of these anonymous articles , tho contents of which I entirely disapprove ) of ; and that ia every respect 1 adhere to the statement made in my letter to you , which certainly you worn , and are at perfect li burly to publish . " Justus Likiiiu . " Munich , September mil , 1 H 52 .

Inpian and European Oratoby . —An Indian ' s delivery , when speaking , is deliberate , slow , and monotonous , almost as if thinking aloud , and the punchiations * are very strongly m arked , and very long ; their action is very fine , and they use a great deal of it . They display a favourable contrast to European orators , in never interrup ting one another by word or look , even though the speaker may be uttering sentiments quite opposed to those of his audience , or , even things they all know to be untrue , and could refute ; still he is always listened to with apparent respect and attention , and when he has sat down , although perhaps there may be a dozen who are burning to contradict , or agree with him they sit a few minutes , as if meditating on what had been said , and then rise with the greatest deliberation , always giving way to the eldest . Certainly a council of Indian chiefs is generally conducted with more decorum and self-respect , than most public meeting's in more civilized countries . —Sulxivan ' s Rambles in America . A Biessing TO Mothees !—The chief , in whose lodo-e we had taken up our residence , was the finest specimen of an Indian I ever saw , both in appearance and nature ; he was called " Wah-ton-she , " which signifies the " good man , " in consequence of his amiable qualities ; his affection for his wife and children was very remarkable , especially for the latter , and there was one little boy , about two years old , whom he used to nurse and cram with fat cow till it could hardly breathe , and when it arrived at that state of repletion that one expected it to explode every moment , he used to get a lump of fat , and grease it well about the digestive organs , which seemed to give it great relief , and then lay it down before the fire till it subsided into something like its natural shape . —SuxirvAN'S Rambles in America . Life . —I once said to an agreeable misanthrope , who had introduced to me a young friend of his , " Your friend , my dear sir , has no worldly tact ; he knows nothing whatever of the usages of life . " " Ah , " said R ., " he is already as mournful and downcast as if he knew every tittle of that of which you reproach him with utter ignorance . "—Chamfort .
